Since its inception, the Maryland Microbrewery Festival has included the homebrewing community as an important part of the festival's goals of beer education and appreciation of all forms of the brewing arts. This year, to further those goals, the festival will feature its second Homebrew Competition. Entries in two categories 80 Schilling Ale (cat 9c)and Belgian Dubbel (cat 18b) will be judged by Certified Beer Judges during the festival. Festival-goers will be able to see the judging taking place and learn about the judging process. Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the judging, for First and Second place winners in each category, as well as Best of Show.

Buffalo Wild WingsThe Best of Show winner will have the honor of having his or her winning recipe brewed by DOG Brewing Company, and served for a limited period of time at Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant locations in Maryland. Buffalo Wild Wings has generously stepped forward to sponsor the Homebrew Competition.

The Homebrew Competition is open to all Maryland homebrewers or members of any Maryland homebrew club. There is an entry fee of $5 per entry, and entries are due between August 31 - September 13. Entries may be shipped, or dropped off at one of several locations. Click here for complete rules and entry forms(requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).

The Homebrew Competition is being organized by members of the Midnight Homebrewers League with the guidance and assistance of the Free State Homebrew Club Guild and its member clubs.

Brewers, good luck to all and let the competition begin!
